Das Kodaly Duo

Nicht unweit von Haydns langjähriger Wirkungsstätte, Schloss Esterháza in Ungarn, begann 100 Jahre nach Haydns Tod ein junger Ungar Feldforschungen zur Folklore seiner Heimat: Zoltán Kodály. An der Seite Béla Bartóks machte er sich mit einem Edison-Phonographen und Notenpapier bewaffnet auf, um in den Jahren vor 1910 den Volksgesang der Bauern in den verschiedenen Regionen des riesigen Landes aufzuzeichnen.

In dem 1914 – am Vorabend des Krieges – komponierten Duo für Violine und Violoncello fanden diese Feldforschungen Kodálys ihren Niederschlag. Was er über die Pentatonik (Fünftönigkeit) in der ungarischen Volksmusik herausgefunden und bereits in einer ethnologischen Studie zu Papier gebracht hatte, übertrug er hier auf ein Konzertstück für zwei Streicher auf der Höhe der Zeit. Es ist ein hoch-virtuoses, zwischen ungarischer Folklore und französischem Impressionismus vermittelndes Duo für Violine und Violoncello. Freilich sind die pentatonischen Linien, mit denen es anhebt, auch eine klangmalerische Reminiszenz an die Alpen. Kodály begann das Stück in den österreichischen Alpen in Feldkirch. Nach seinem eigenen Zeugnis hat ihn die Silhouette der Berge zum Anfang des Duos inspiriert.

Der Musikjournalist Gerhard Pätzig hat in seiner Beschreibung des Duos die Bezüge zur volksmusikalischen Praxis betont: “Erster Satz. Der folkloristische Brauch, sich vor Beginn der Darbietungen auf den Instrumenten erst einmal improvisierend einzuspielen, während sich die Tänzerinnen und Sänger um die Musikanten herumgruppieren, wird mit einer kadenz-artigen Introduktion stilisierend angedeutet. Sodann intoniert die Violine das Hauptthema des Satzes, von zarten Pizzicato-Rhythmen des Cellos begleitet. Ein Rollentausch der beiden lnstrumente eskaliert zu einem lebhaften Dialogisieren… Zweiter Satz. Ein schwärmerisches Fantasieren des jeweils melodieführenden Instruments wird vom Partner zu einer überraschenden Fülle dynamisch abgestufter Begleitfarben und -figuren genutzt. Für Spannung sorgt ein grollender Mittelteil mit bewegtem Cello-Tremolo und rezitativischen Geigenepisoden. Der Satz lichtet sich mit lyrisch verhauchenden Geigenseufzern…

Dritter Satz. Zigeunergeigerisch fordert eine ausgedehnte Solokadenz der Violine zum Tanz auf. Zwei virtuose, von packenden Tonrepetitionen angeheizte Melodiefolgen entfalten ein schwungvoll bewegtes Spiel… Mit wilder Presto-Turbulenz endet das Kehraus-Finale.”

Dalia Dedinskaite

 Dalia Dedinskaite & Gleb PyšniakBorn in Vilnius, Lithuania, currently studying and residing in Vienna, Dalia Dedinskaite is one of the most promising in her generation of Baltic violinists . After winning the prestigious International violin competition “Violine in Dresden 2010″ in Germany, young artist was invited to perform the L. van Beethoven violin concerto in the festival “Dresdner Festspiele 2012“.

Dalia Dedinskaite has already performed in many European countries and US, in venues such as Vienna Musikverein, The Paul Hall of The Juilliard School in New York, Bösendorfer Concert Hall in Mozarthaus Vienna, Lithuanian National Philharmonic, Kaunas Philharmonic, Odd Fellow Palæet in Copenhagen, The Big Hall of Carl Maria von Weber music highschool in Dresden, the Vilnius City Hall, and others. She has also appeared as a soloist with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra and the “Dresdner Kappelsolisten”, cooperated with conductors Saulius Sondeckis, Juozas Domarkas, Georg Mark, Helmuth Branny, John Holloway. Dalia is a prize-winner of many national and international competitions including: the 4th International Alexander Glazounov violin competition in Paris, National Balys Dvarionas competition, The 4th Raimundas Katilius violin competition, The VIth International Stasys Vainiunas Chamber music competition and others.

An enthusiastic chamber musician, Dalia toured and participated in the international festivals of classical music, such as “The 10th annual ChamberFest” in New York, “Schwäbischer Frühling” in Germany, “Festival Pablo Casals” in France, “The International Holland Music Sessions” in Holland, “Loisiarte” in Austria and others, has cooperated with such artists as Christian Altenburger, Patrick Demenga, Ole Chritsian Haagenrud, Cornelia Hermann, Reinhard Latzko, Gleb Pysniak, Mihaela Ursuleasa, Christoph Schiller, Quirine Viersen.

Dalia had materclasses with Shmuel Ashkenasi, Lluis Claret, Aleksander Fischer, Herbert Kefer, Maria Kliegel, Sergej Kravchenko, Klaus Maetzl, Eszter Perényi, Miklós Perényi, Jérôme Pernoo, Marianne Piketty, Josef Rissin, Miroslav Rousin, Fred Sherry, Richard Stolztman, members of the Talich Quartet and Fine Arts Quartet.

Dalia Dedinskaite was born in 1988 in Vilnius. Her formal studies she began at the Naujoji Vilnia music school under Elena Lasaite, later continued at the National M. K. Ciurlionis School of art under prof. Jurgis Dvarionas. 2007-2008 – at the Lithuanian Academy of music and theatre (Prof. Jurgis Dvarionas). From 2008 Dalia is studying at the University of Music and Performing arts in Vienna with prof. Christian Altenburger, chamber music with prof. Johannes Meissl.

Gleb Pysniak

Born in 1987 in Vilnius, Lithuania, Gleb Pyšniak is one of the brightest in his generation of Baltic cellists. He made his concerto debut at age 14 in Lithuanian National Philharmonic Hall as a soloist with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra under prof. Saulius Sondeckis. Since then he has performed internationally in Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Holland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Poland, Portugal, Norway, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and Italy in prestigious venues such as the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory, Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, Vienna Musikverein, Casa da Musica of Porto, Fazioli Concert Hall in Italy, Hofburg palace in Vienna, Teatro Verdi in Pisa, at the Great Guild of Riga City, Edvard Grieg’s home – Troldhaugen Museum, Moscow Conservatory Rachmaninov Hall, Vilnius City Hall, Vilnius Congress Palace, Lithuanian National Philharmonic, National Opera and Ballet Theatre, Kaunas Philharmonic and others. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Moscow Conservatory Symphony Orchestra (conductor Andris Vecumnieks), Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra (conductor Georg Mark), Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra (conductor prof. Gleb Pyšniak has worked with several internationally recognized maestros including Yo-Yo Ma, Mstislav Rostropovich, David Geringas, Philippe Muller, Heinrich Schiff, Philippe Bary, Alexander Boyarsky, Lluis Claret, Dmitri Ferschtman, Michael Flaksman, Johannes Goritzki, Maria Kliegel, Reinhard Latzko, Monika Leskovar, László Mezö, Elena Očic, Miklós Perényi, Jérôme Pernoo, Jeroen Reuling, Gustav Rivinius, Silvija Sondeckienė, Eleanora Testelec, Hege Waldeland.

Gleb Pyšniak is a prize-winner of many national and international competitions including the Karl Davydov IV International Cello Competition; the 1st prize as well as a special prize Accord case winner of the VI Antonio Janigro International Cello Competition in Poreč , the 1st prize as well as a special prize of the August Dombrovskis VI International Competition, the 1st prize in the competition of string instruments of all Lithuanian academies in 2008, Grand Prix in the competition organized by the society of Jews in Lithuania in 2008, Yamaha Award winner in 2010, and in addition to winning many others.

In 2005 Mr. Pyšniak was awarded a grant of the Monsignor Kazimieras Vasiliauskas Fund. In 2006 he was awarded by Lithuanian president Valdas Adamkus for the making known the cultural name of Lithuania abroad. In 2009 Gleb Pyšniak was selected the “New Master on Tour“ in the International „Holland music sessions“ and able to perform in the world’s famous concert halls. In 2012 during the festival „ISA Prague-Vienna-Budapest“ together with violinist Dalia Dedinskaite Gleb Pyšniak won „Kodály Award“ for an outstanding performance of Zoltán Kodály Duo op. 7 for violin and cello.

In 2008 he performed a world premier with prof. David Geringas, prof. Rimantas Armonas and others – CONCERTO DA CAMERA for 7 cellos by Vytautas Laurušas and after recorded it.
In 2008 he made recording for the National Latvian Radio.

Mr. Pyšniak began his formal studies in 1998 at the Balys Dvarionas Ten-Year Music School under Tatjana Kuc. Afterwards, he graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre as a student of prof. Rimantas Armonas. He currently studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna as a student of prof. Johannes Meissl and at the Konservatorium Wien University as a student of prof. Natalia Gutman.
